The globally competent teacher in secondary level of education

Globalization has been defined by Malcom (1995) as a social process in which the constraints of geography on social and cultural arrangements recede and in which people become increasingly aware that they are receding. It is a phenomenon that represents the emerging world wide interdependence of individuals and countries, which is characterized by various economic, political, cultural and social realities. Robison (1999) sees globalization as a highly dynamic process of growing interdependence among nation states with implication that issues are becoming global rather than national, and that they demand global rather than national attention.
Competency in this research is seen as act of being adequate and fit. The globally competent teacher therefore is that teacher that is adequate and fit to teach globally. He is the teacher globally effective to impart knowledge in the level of education he is trained to teach. He is not only an effective teacher in his nation but in other nations of the world.
Today, there is cry of lack of employment in many countries of the world and Nigeria is one of such. The issue is biting hard everyday as more graduates continued to be produced annually and the jobs are not just there. Many of these graduates have become proactive, creating job for themselves and most of the time outside their field of training. Some Accountants have taken to tailoring while some female trained biology, chemistry, physics, history, economics teachers have taken to hairdressing and the like. Some of the men have taken to truck-driving and other daily paid jobs just to make a living in the world. This researcher believes that there are numerous teaching jobs out there in the neighbouring countries for these trained teachers especially in the secondary level of education. Anyone highly read and prepared to teach need not deviate from the field of training to other jobs and must not suffer from lack of employment.
